Frequently Asked Questions

Emily D Therapy is a telehealth therapy provider that offers mental health support to individuals located anywhere in Texas.

Hi, I'm Emily Daily! Fun fact: I think it is hilarious when people use my last name as a pun. For example, a nickname of mine is "Emily On The Daily." Peak humor, I know.

I am in my late 20s, a mom of two cats, own over 150 house plants, and a Native Texan. I play the guitar and piano, and I love all things nature!

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) in Texas supervised by Melissa Tatum, LPC-S.

I love being a therapist, and I would love to work with you! Reach out when you are ready to get started.

An LPC Associate is a provisionally licensed professional counselor who has completed a graduate degree and passed licensing exams, and is now completing supervised clinical hours under the guidance of an approved supervisor.

Yes, as an LPC Associate, I often offer lower fees than fully licensed therapists. I’m also open to discussing sliding scale options based on your financial needs.

My clinical work is supervised by Melissa Tatum, LPC-S. Her oversight helps ensure high-quality care and supports my continued professional growth. She can be reached by email at mjtatum@melissatatum.net

I deeply value and respect diversity in all its forms including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, religion, and cultural background.

My goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where everyone feels seen, heard, and understood.

I am committed to approaching therapy with cultural humility and ongoing learning, recognizing how each person’s unique experiences shape their journey.

Together, we’ll honor your identity and work in a way that respects and supports who you are.

Emily D Therapy offers a variety of counseling services, including individual therapy, couples therapy, and group therapy.

Therapy services are delivered virtually in Texas.

Seeking therapy for the first time can feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to wonder what to expect. In our sessions, you’ll have a safe, confidential space to share what’s on your mind at your own pace. I’ll listen without judgment and work with you collaboratively to understand your experiences and goals. Together, we’ll explore strategies and insights to support your healing and growth. It’s a personal journey, and I’m here to guide and support you every step of the way.

When you begin, our first few sessions will focus on getting to know you - your story, your challenges, and what you hope to achieve. This helps me understand your unique needs and together we’ll set goals that feel meaningful and achievable.

As we continue, therapy becomes a collaborative space where we explore thoughts, feelings, and patterns that may be holding you back. I may introduce different tools or techniques tailored to you, such as coping strategies, mindfulness, or ways to reframe negative thinking. The pace is always guided by your comfort and readiness.

Over time, many clients notice increased self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, and stronger resilience. Therapy isn’t about quick fixes; it’s a process of growth, healing, and learning new ways to navigate life’s challenges. You’re not alone in this; I’ll be with you every step of the way, providing support, encouragement, and a safe place to be yourself.

If you ever have questions or feel unsure, please bring that up - that’s an important part of the journey too.

There will be a bit of paperwork at the beginning, mostly to help me understand your background, needs, and to cover important things like consent and privacy. I try to keep it as simple and streamlined as possible, and I'm happy to answer any questions along the way. After that, there's very little ongoing paperwork - just space for us to focus on you and your goals.

Telehealth means meeting for therapy sessions remotely through a secure video platform or sometimes by phone. It allows you to connect with me from the comfort of your home or wherever you feel safe. Telehealth offers flexibility, convenience, and accessibility, especially if you have a busy schedule, mobility challenges, or live in a remote or rural area.

The sessions work much like in-person therapy; your privacy and confidentiality remain a top priority, and we create a supportive space for you to share and work on your goals. If you ever have questions or concerns about how telehealth works, I’m happy to walk you through it.

Yes, telehealth can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many people and concerns. Research shows that video and phone sessions often lead to similar outcomes as meeting face-to-face.

Telehealth offers the benefit of convenience and accessibility, which can help you stay consistent with your sessions, which is an important factor in making progress.

That said, some people may prefer in-person sessions depending on their needs or comfort level, and that’s completely okay. However, I work exclusively virtually for now.

To get the most out of therapy, being open and honest is really important - even when it feels uncomfortable. Sharing your true thoughts and feelings helps me understand you better and tailor our work to what you need most. It’s also helpful to come to sessions with a willingness to explore new perspectives and try out strategies we discuss between sessions.

Setting clear goals, even small ones, can keep us focused and give you a sense of progress. Remember, therapy is a partnership; you bring your experiences and courage, and I bring guidance and support.

Lastly, practicing self-compassion throughout the process is key. Change takes time, and there might be ups and downs. Being patient with yourself and communicating openly about what’s working or not helps us adjust the approach to best support you.

If you ever feel stuck or unsure, sharing those feelings in session can open new doors for growth.

I usually schedule clients at the same time and day (ex. 2pm on Tuesdays) each week to better ensure that each client has a time slot consistently dedicated to them.

If your schedule changes from week to week, I ask that you notify of any changes as soon as possible, and I will do my best to accommodate.

Your privacy and confidentiality are very important to me. Everything you share in our sessions is kept confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside of our work together without your permission.

There are a few exceptions required by law, such as if I believe you are at serious risk of harming yourself or others, in cases of suspected abuse, or a court subpoena.

I follow professional ethical guidelines and legal standards to protect your information, and I use secure methods to store any records. If you have any questions or concerns about confidentiality at any point, please feel free to bring them up. I want you to feel safe and comfortable throughout our work together.

I do my best to respond to messages within 24 hours. I typically check messages during weekday business hours, and I may be slower to reply on evenings, weekends, or holidays.

While I’m not available for crisis support, I’ll always respond as promptly as I can during my working hours. If something feels urgent, we can talk in session about creating a plan for extra support.

To honor the boundaries and ethics of our therapeutic relationship, I don’t engage in personal relationships or communication outside of the therapy space. This helps create a safe, consistent, and professional environment where you can focus fully on your growth and healing.

That said, within our sessions, you’ll always have my full presence, care, and commitment. If you ever have questions about boundaries or the therapy process, I’m always open to talking about them.

I have business social media accounts (linked on the Socials page) that provide tips to enhance your mental well-being. Between therapy sessions, feel free to check out these pages, but it is not expected nor required of you to do so.

I will only interact with you from my business phone number, my business email, or the Client Portal.

If we happen to see each other in public, I’ll follow your lead. To protect your privacy and confidentiality, I won’t acknowledge you unless you choose to acknowledge me first. I understand that not everyone wants others to know they’re in therapy, and your comfort always comes first. If you ever feel unsure about how to handle a public encounter, we can talk about it together in session and figure out what feels best for you.
